These are halvah cakes at the Mahane Yehuda Market in Jerusalem. Halvah is a dessert made primarily of tahini (sesame paste) and sugar. I bought a big slab of halvah with five different kinds of chocolate in it, which miraculously made it back to Baltimore relatively unharmed. My fellow travelers were really into the coffee halvah, but you know how I feel about coffee.

OHMYGOD I love Halvah. My mom used to buy it when she could find it. It’s so good! A must buy when I go to Israel!
